Shah Alam replaced Kuala Lumpur as the capital city of Selangor in 1978 as Kuala Lumpur was incorporated into a Federal Territory in 1974. Shah Alam, the first planned city in Malaysia, is well equipped with the living infrastructure including shopping malls, banks, hotels, restaurants, and medical centers. Shah Alam is a quiet and pleasant city. Shah Alam is connected to major cities through several highways. The Kuala Lumpur International Airport is located 30km south of the city. The famous tourist attractions include the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Mosque in the downtown which is also called Blue Mosque as the architectural masterpiece with the highest spire in the world. The exchange activities with Shah Alam have continued since Aug. 2011. The sister city relationship was established on Nov. 27, 2013. More active exchange activities take place, such as business exchanges between companies and organizations, and youth exchanges that allow young people to experience different cultures and traditions.

How it began
- Aug.19,2011 During the Internationalization Promotion Council, it was suggested to select a nearby international city to establish a sisterhood relationship, and have cultural and language exchange programs for youths. The friendly relationship was established through a recommendation of Choi Seong-jae, a member of the Internationalization Promotion Council.

- Jul. 2012 Sent the letter of intent on ‘Friendship Relationship’ to Shah Alam.
- Oct. 2012 The Mayor of Shah Alam sent a reply to the letter of intent on Neighborhood Relationship.
- Mar. 2013 The Hanam representatives visited Shah Alam.
- Jun. 2013 The mayor of Shah Alam visited Hanam.
- Nov. 2013 Established the sister city relationship between Hanam and Shah Alam.
- Feb. 2017 Visited Shah Alam to discuss an exchange of symbolic sculptures.
- Dec. 2018 Completed the production and transportation project for the symbolic sculptures. (Hanam→ Shah Alam)
- Feb. 2019 The symbolic sculptures arrived and were installed in Shah Alam.
- Apr. 2019 The Hanam representatives including the mayor visited Shah Alam.
- Apr. 30, 2019 Held an unveiling ceremony of “Blooming”, the symbolic sculpture representing Hanam, in the International Park in Shah Alam.
- Sep. 2019 The city of Shah Alam representatives including the mayor visited South Korea to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Hanam’s official promotion as a city.
- Sep. 30, 2019 Held an unveiling ceremony in Hanam which was of the symbolic sculpture, representing Shah Alam.
